In the north east one of the best sources of a fire started is birch bark. It will burn even if soaken wet. It does however require a direct flame from some source, match or lighter. other improvised fire startes are cheese puffs and fritos ..yes you read that rite. please post any other traditional or improvised ways you may know about Ty
